Canadian Grand Prix™
Montreal - A driver favourite which takes places over 4.361km of tight chicanes and hairpins.
The innovative city of Montreal is built on a 30 mile-long island, with no building taller than the Mount Royal Cross which stands on the North Eastern peak of the mountain overlooking the Eastern side of the island. The second largest French speaking city in the world, after Paris; the vibrant island is known for its culture and a hot spot for all things music and food, famous for the iconic local dishes of Montreal style Bagel, Poutine and smoked meat sandwich. More than 85% of the world’s maple syrup comes from Montreal with the syrup and sugar being exported to over 50 countries worldwide. Montreal is recognised as the home to Cirque du Soleil which is the French meaning of ‘circus of the sun’.
The race circuit was born after the 1976 Olympics which created the now Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve out of the island’s roads with the first Grand Prix hosted in 1978. The hairpin famously at the end of the circuit along with the start-stop approach and lots of heavy breaking chicanes is why the 4.361km circuit is known as one of the driver’s favourites. Montreal is a charming, Formula One loving city as well as one of Formula One’s most laidback venue.
